Signal Hill, CA
Although Long Beach Pride is cancelled this year due to the Coronavirus, the City of Signal Hill will be raising its own Pride Flag on Friday May 22nd at 11am. This event will coincide with Harvey Milk Day and will commemorate raising the Pride Flag at City Hall, Library and Police Department for FIRST TIME in Signal Hill’s 96 year history.
The event will be a virtual event via Facebook to practice social distancing and ensure safety for the greater public.
Earlier this year in January, Council Member Keir Jones brought the 2020 Commemorate Flag Resolution to City Council and it was approved. In addition two more flags were approved to be raised at city hall including the NAACP and Women’s Suffrage flags.
Jones, who brought this item to City Council applauded the decision at the time saying, “3 Commemorative Flags will be flying high in Signal Hill during 2020, celebrating history, inclusion, and spotlighting the vote for all. Thank you to everyone who showed their support, your passionate comments demonstrated the love Signal Hill has for every member of our community.”
The flag will fly through LGBTQ Pride Month in June. Keir Jones stated, “We recognize Harvey Milk and celebrate his vision of a world where our LGBTQ community is represented and recognized, and that all people are welcome in our city.”
